Branding and Identity work

I don’t try to market the branding work I’ve done, simply because I enjoy product design / UX design more, and don’t want to distract from that focus in my portfolio.

Where I haven’t always owned these branding initiatives, I’m always game for a creative problem and jumping in to help drive the holistic product vision. This has regularly included working closely with branding and marketing teams. Here’s branding work I’ve done for some of the larger companies in parallel to my UX / Product design initiatives.

Microsoft Azure Quantum:

Azure Quantum functioned as a startup within the Microsoft Azure organization. I’d noticed that a number of different branding treatments were being used across teams (Initial inspiration below), and while working on spot illustrations to be used on Overview page cards, I started kicking around branding ideas and ran them by a product management leader. The concepts were outsourced to an agency for the final branding being used today. I supplied the concepts for all but the last logo you’ll see in this presentation.

My concepts all revolved around the additional dimensions that Quantum technology offered, and initially, incorporated Microsoft’s branded colors. I was later instructed to focus only on the dimensional aspect and not include Microsoft’s branding due to the impact on the timeframe that collaborating with Microsoft’s marketing and branding teams would entail.

Subsequent use of concepts:

Although, the final logo lacked the sharper dimensional artwork, the concept was still very much aligned. A number of subsequent Azure and Azure Quantum communications likely included some of the dimensional building block conceptual artwork I had created.

Here’s a few examples…
